Barrier Islands: North Captiva, Cayo Costa, Gasparilla Island The barrier islands in northern Lee County are a popular destination for residents and tourists alike. The islands are only accessible by boat, and are a great weekend getaway, or day trip. The fishing off the barrier islands is world-renowned.
Sanibel and Captiva Islands Sanibel and Captiva Islands are barrier islands near Ft. Myers. The beaches of Sanibel and Captiva Islands are world famous for shelling, fishing, and the J.N. "Ding" Darling Wildlife Preserve.
Cape Coral Cape Coral is tucked behind Sanibel near the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River. Cape Coral's riverfront beach and public fishing pier are open year round. Amenities include BBQ grills, picnic shelters, restaurant and a children's play area.
Fort Myers Beach Fort Myers Beach offers a combination of family vacation with fun and nightlife. The Town Square near the pier is a great people-watching spot, while further down the island residential properties and condominiums make for a quieter beach experience. There are many beach access points along Estero Boulevard for easy public access to the area’s white-sand beaches.
Lover's Key Lover’s Key is located south of Fort Myers Beach and north of Bonita. The beach is a popular family recreation area. Carl E. Johnson Park, operated by Lee County Parks, offers wide sandy beaches and clear water. The park entrance is between New Pass and Big Carlos Pass.
Bonita Springs/Naples/Marco Island beaches
Bonita Beach Bonita Beach is the southernmost beach in Lee County. The beach is lined with Australian Pine trees. Amenities include public parking, restaurants and a playground.
Barefoot Beach Barefoot Beach Preserve is 342 acres of natural land and one of the last undeveloped barrier islands on Florida's southwest coast. The beach is located on the border of Collier and Lee Counties. Barefoot Beach is known for its serenity, and its fishing opportunities.
Delnor-Wiggins Pass Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Recreation Area is located on a barrier island near Naples, Florida. It is one of Naples most popular beaches. The Pass serves as the outlet for the Cocohatchee River into the Gulf of Mexico. Among the wildlife of the park are bald eagles, ospreys, owls, loggerhead sea turtles, West Indian manatees and migratory shorebirds.
Vanderbilt Beach Vanderbilt Beach is located at the end of Vanderbilt Beach Road in Naples near hotels, shopping and restaurants.
Clam Pass Clam Pass County Park consists of 35 acres of mangroves, dunes, and Gulf Coast beach. The beach is accessed via a ¾-mile long boardwalk that runs through mangrove forests. Tram service is also available. Amenities include restrooms, lifeguards, picnic areas and nature trails.
Lowdermilk Beach Park Lowdermilk Beach Park is located at the northern end of Naples Beach. Park amenities include a playground, restrooms and a concession area.
Naples Beach Naples Beach is easily accessed via points alongside most of downtown Naples. Visitors can see native species such as sea oats, sabal palms (the Florida state tree), sea grape and gumbo limbo. The beach’s wide, spacious beach provides plenty of room for locals and tourists.
Keewaydin Island Keewaydin Island is a barrier island located off Naples. Keewaydin Island is a location for Loggerhead turtle nesting, and is monitored nightly by the Conservancy of Southwest Florida. The beaches of Keewaydin Island are accessible by boat, and a popular destination for tourists and locals.
Tigertail Beach Tigertail Beach is a 31-acrea area located on Hernando Drive on Marco Island. The beaches amenities include restrooms, showers, boardwalks, concessions, playground, butterfly garden, picnic area and sand volleyball court.
Cape Romano/Kice Island Cape Romano and Kice Island are remote, undeveloped barrier islands just off Marco Island. The beaches offer long white beaches with tons of seashells. The beaches can only be accessed by boat, but are easily within reach of canoe and kayak paddlers and motor boats owners wanting to see an undeveloped Southwest Florida shoreline.
